Northwest Legends Club Meeting Minutes
(October 5, 2019)
MEETING OPENED:
Meeting called to order at 6:12pm by our President, Ted Knapp at the Roundtable Pizza, in Burien, WA.
ATTENDENCE:
September’s Club meeting was attended by 22 members and 1 potential new member.
GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS:
John Gardner (Don Gardner’s son) is planning to join our club.
SECRETARIES REPORT:
Wally Santella read the October’s Secretaries Report and September’s meeting minutes were posted to the Club Website. Wally also read the 2019 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes, which was held on September 27th, at Wally & Ann’s residence in SeaTac, WA.
TREASURES REPORT:
Tom Willett read the October Treasures Report and provided the Club’s financial details for the period of September 1st, through September 30th, 2019.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Wally Santella passed two correspondences around to the attending membership to read. One document was from the Valley Drifters Cruising Association, dated August 2019 and provided activity details of their Club for that month. The second document was from Kerri Kirshner & Eddie Quintero of AgencyOne and represented a listing of property located in Renton, WA which included a two story house with a very nice 30′ x 40′ shop with hoist and hydraulic jack and 220v power.
GUEST SPEAKER OF THE MONTH:
There was non guest speaker for the month of October.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
2020 TIGERS ON THE COLUMBIA (TOTC) Plans – Ted Knapp reported again that he has signed a contract with the Red Lion Hotel and with the City of Richland, reserving their Howard Amon Park for our 2020 Tigers on the Columbia event. Ted also reported that he is looking into a possible Brewery Tour as a Sunday activity.
2021 TIGERS ON THE COLUMBIA (TOTC) Plans – Ted Knapp reported that he has also signed a contract with the Red Lion Hotel to secure the Red Lion as our main venue for 2021’s Tigers on the Columbia event.
2019 Club Christmas/Banquest/Meeting – Bob Weiss, Wally & Ann Santella updated the membership that Ann completed her review of the ACT 3 Catering holiday banquet meal choices and that she recommended her choice at last months Club meeting, of the “Winter Solstice Buffet”, which features three main Entrees, (with a choice of two), of which Ann recommends (1) “Holiday Bake Ham w/brown sugar glaze” and (2) “Oven Roasted Turkey”. This menu also offers five Side Dish offerings (with a choice of two), of which Ann recommended (1) Garlic Mashed Potatoes and (2) Traditional Herbed Stuffing. For the Salad offering (with a choice of one), Ann recommended the “Harvest Greens Salad w/balsamic vinaigrette”. This meal choice also comes with “Glazed Rolls & Assorted Rustic Breads w/butter”. For Dessert, Ann suggested the Club purchase 5 different Costco cakes, to complete the menu. There will also be a Holiday Beverage Selection that had to be decided at the October Club meeting. This selection includes “Spiced Apple Cider”, “Hot Cocoa w/ whipped cream”, “Cranberry Spritzer”, and “Traditional Eggnog”. A vote was taken and the majority went to the “Traditional Eggnog”. The Club was required to complete their mean choices and communicate them to ACT 3 Catering after this October 5th date, so Bob Weiss will communicate the results of our food choices back to ACT 3 Catering.
OLD BUSINESS:
Tom Willett provided a recap of the Hot Rod Hall of Fame dinner that he and Bob Stevenson attended as a result of our scholarship donations to the Washington Institute of Technology which the Hot Rod Hall of Fame also supports. This was the first time that Bob has attended this function and he reported that the Hot Rod Hall of Fame elected 9 new members from the State of Washington. Bob also suggested that there were about 200 attendees at this event and about 40 pieces of car related art work for sale to help raise donations.
Scholarship Donations – Tom Willett announced the results of the voting process returns and indicated that a majority response was in favor of Tom’s request of donating $1500 to the Renton Collage Scholarship fund and $2000 to the Lake Washington Institute of Technology.
Pontiac Cruise to the East Side of Mt. St. Helens – Greg Amundson gave a recap to the attending membership on the successful cruise to the east side of Mt St. Helens. Greg reported that a total of 14 Pontiac’s, including GTO’s, Fiero’s, Bonneville’s, and Firebirds attended this cruise. Donna Duval of the Jet City Fiero’s later reported in their Newletter that they had a pit stop in Elbe and viewed the town’s collection of cabooses, which have been converted to overnight accommodations. The cruise stopped at the Tall Timbers Cafe for lunch, according to Donna. The cruise continued from Randle to Windy Ridge, a testy trip over bumpy roads. All in all, a very enjoyable cruise with great scenery and good weather!
2019 NW American Muscle Car Show – Wally Santella provided a recap of the “Griot’s” show, which in spite of bad weather in the morning, resulted with good sponsorship coverage, in a net profit of $1,011.66, with 32 registered cars.
NEW BUSINESS:
Future Club Meeting – Ted Knapp, following a suggestion from Bob Weiss, contacted Mario Pippins about holding our November CLub Meeting at this car collection in Renton, at the south end of the Renton Airport. Ted was not able to finalize his planning for this and suggested moving this meeting to February of the new year to allow it to be fully reported in the Club’s Newsletter.
2020 Dues Renewal Process – Wally Santella announced that the 2020 CLub Dues Renewal process is ready to start including our G-Man online registration process, at our Club Website. Dues renewals will be processed from October thru February, with the goal of completing this process by the end of December.
New Club Newsletter Editor/Publisher Team – Ted Knapp announced that Don Romero is stepping down as our Club Newsletter Editor/Publisher at the end of this year. The Board has accepted David and Melinda Gale and their offer to take over this responsibility.
2020 Club Officer Nominations – Ted Knapp nominated Bill Nelson for the position of Club President and Wally Santella nominated Bob Stevenson as Club Secretary.
Board of Director Positions of Responsibility Appointments – Wally Santella announced that the Board of Directors, at their meeting on September 27th, in an effort to strengthen the Club’s management team for 2020, made the following Positions of Responsibility Apointments: (1) G-Man Administrator – John Lund, (2) Membership Manager – Barbara Brazil, (3) Newsletter Editor/Publisher – Melinda & David Gale, (4) Event Coordinator Team – Wally Santella, Ted Knapp, & Jim Braden.
2019 Club Christmas Banquet – Wally Santella announced that the 2019 Club Christmas Banquet planning has been completed and will be held on December 7th, at the Merrill Gardens at Burien, which is located at 15020 5th Ave SW. The agenda will start with the Club Business Meeting at 4:00pm to 5:00pm, the Social Hour from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, Dinner from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Awards from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, and Gift Exchange from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Online Registration, with supporting information is now open at our Club Website.
SHOP TALK: Gary Tischer reported that the people that he was helping to purchase a GTO, have gone back to Michigan and purchased a GTO and Gary says he has talked to them about joining the Club.
50/50 RAFFLE: A 50/50 Raffle was held and Patrick Kinsella won $42 and donated it, along with the other $42, which both went to the Club’s coffers. Thank you Patrick!
MEETING ADJORNED:
The club’s business meeting adjourned at 7:45pm by our President, Ted Knapp. Our next meeting will be at the Round Table Pizza, in Burien, on November 2nd, at 6:00pm.
